My journalism students should NOT read this.
Then again, it’s important to realize what we are facing. It’s obviously not as bad as what Gawker humorously portrays, but our j-school graduates are going to have to think outside the traditional mainstream media jobs.
That’s why journalism students need to experiment in school. They must dream up new ways of storytelling. The innovators will land the good jobs — and will determine the future of news media.

There are actually great opportunities to freelance or come on board full time at ad agencies as a copywriter. The skills are similar and there’s a strong need for creative storytellers.
It might be worth the money and the hours to take a couple extra ad/marketing-related courses.
