If you think you know the meanest parent in the world, you’re gonna have to debate that with this mom.
Jane Hambleton of Des Moines, Iowa, deemed herself the “meanest mom on the planet” when she sold her 19-year-old son’s car after finding alcohol in it.
The ad she ran in the local newspaper — for all the world to see — reads:
“OLDS 1999 Intrigue. Totally uncool parents who obviously don’t love teenage son, selling his car. Only driven for three weeks before snoopy mom who needs to get a life found booze under front seat. $3,700/offer. Call meanest mom on the planet.”
Good for Mrs. Hambleton. More parents should follow her lead.
What’s the harshest/meanest punishment your parents handed to you? What’s the harshest punishment you’ve handed to your offspring?
I saw this and died laughing. I think the mom rocks! (Oh, and I don’t ever remember truly being punished – mostly because I honestly never did anything that bad. I think my worst punishment was having time out in my room.)
I had just turned 16 and my dad bought me a Toyota Celica. But I made a D in Algebra (English major- not good at math) so he would not let me drive it until the next report card- 6 weeks! I was so devastated. I managed to bring the grade up so I guess it was a good incentive, but I still think it was harsh.
That’s pretty cool. Here’s the sad thing, though:
She’s getting all the feedback because it was such a rash, harsh thing to do.
Very, very few parents would actually do something like that because their kids might not “like” them for a while.
I’m not really even talking about the ad, just the selling the car part of the story.
In Searcy, this would be considered child abuse.
Good for her on the ad as well.
My parents didn’t even buy me a car when I turned 16. We could buy one or just use the family car and pay for our own gas. I don’t think that was a punishment, I think it just made us appreciate the vehicles!
There were many times when I didn’t “like” my parents, but did I always love them? You bet.
I think what she did was great…
Jane was not from Des Moines. She was from Fort Dodge, Iowa. If you’re going to post something at least get the info correct.
Mom is from Fort Dodge, Iowa, not Des Moines as you reported. If you are going to post something at least get it right the first time.
