The Lord’s Prayer is one of the most well-known passages in the Bible. It’s certainly one of the most recited. And it’s full of insight into God’s nature – and ours.
9“This, then, is how you should pray: ” ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.‘
This passage is the subject of a sermon I am giving in two weeks.
What is meaningful to you about the Lord’s Prayer? What lessons do you take from this teaching of Jesus?
The Lord’s prayer shows the reverence that we should give him. He is all powerful. He is the strong and we are the weak. We should display that attitude in our prayers and actions. God is in control.

If you take a look here, you can see what St John Chrysostom said about it:

(I found his comments about “daily bread” particularly interesting.)
“as we have also forgiven”. WOW! Nothing like pressure, huh?
We still miss you at Harding!

The part where Jesus says, “Forgive us our debts” I think of one of my teens in the past who always borrowed money because he didn’t want to “break a 20” or would have his YOuth Minister drive out of the parking lot with him and they would only take cash. Yes, forgive our debts, I bet you really like for your friends to take that from Jesus!
Those are all good thoughts – except for Awtrey’s
David U- great to hear from you. I check in on your blog from time to time. I appreciate your posts.
Awtrey- Quit harassing me on my own blog and get going on your sabbatical!!!
Jim, it’s so good hearing from you man! I like your blog. I think the thing that’s most convicting about the Lord’s prayer to me right now, is may your Kingdom come on earth as it is in Heaven. I always thought that following Jesus was mainly about the afterlife, but the more I read the Scriptures it seems that God is concerned about this life as well. He is trying to bring Heaven crashing into earth.
